About The Position

This is an academic position in which the faculty member is responsible for assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned courses, as well as the curriculum within the Surgical Technology Program.

Requirements

  • Required Minimum Education: 2 Year/ Associates Degree
  • Field of Study: Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Licensure/Certification Required: Active CST certification by National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Must have a minimum total of at least two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated use of appropriate technology in the classroom.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the specific division and students.

  • Preferred Education: 4 year/ Bachelors Degree
  • Field of Study Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Teaching experience in a college or university preferred.
  • Active and current membership in professional and community organizations is desired., such as Ohio AST.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for classroom/clinical/laboratory instruction of assigned courses.
  • Facilitates a learning and caring environment, which encourages critical thinking, investigation, self-direction, and respect for the uniqueness of each individual student.
  • Evaluates student progress and maintains appropriate records.
  • Upholds and promotes the BSMH/College Mission and Core Values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life and service.
  • Remains current with trends, issues, and practices in the discipline.
  • Contributes to the evaluation of student academic achievement and other evaluative processes of the College.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and implementation of the general education philosophy.
  • Serves on college committees as appointed or elected.
  • Actively involved in professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Participates in peer, self, and course review.
