About The Position

Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity, promote diversity, and open communications. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in electrical or related fields
  • Three (3) years of work experience (field experience only, academic experience such as a TA or lab assistant does not apply) with industrial automated systems.
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Professional licensure in electrical or control engineering.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Three (3) years of experience in programming, installing, and troubleshooting Rockwell Automation Products and software.
  • A proficient in three or more of the following subjects: motors, electromechanical controls, A.C. variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, robotics, and alternate energy (solar)
  • Demonstrated building automation control and design experience.
  • Electrical license or a strong knowledge of National Electric Code.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EEAS courses in a variety of subject areas in the fields of electrical and electronics technologies.
  • Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
  • Conduct focused course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities, emphasizing on the current and developing technologies.
  • Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
  • Assist students with academic advising.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Teach at other campus sites as needed.
  • Develop and modify curriculum as necessary to maintain an articulated and industry specific program of study.
  • Develop classroom and lab materials as required.
  • Remain current in the field by attending courses, workshops, etc.
  • Communicate with high schools, colleges, and industry representatives.
  • Assist students in job placement.
  • Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
