About The Position

Episcopal High School fields Freshman, JV, and Varsity football teams with more than 100 participants and a strong record of competitive success. Rooted in discipline, teamwork, and character development, the program supports student-athletes year-round through structured training and a cohesive coaching philosophy. Episcopal High School seeks a full-time Faculty member and Defensive Coordinator who will provide leadership within the football program while teaching four academic classes. Reporting to the Head Coach and the appropriate academic department chair, the successful candidate will model professionalism, instructional excellence, and commitment to the mission and values of the school.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to student development.
  • Defensive coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level (coordinator experience preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons, assessments, and learning resources for four academic courses.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment and provide individual support to students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, advisors, and school leaders regarding academic progress.
  • Incorporate technology effectively and regularly.
  • Support the school’s Mission & Guiding Principles as well as the school’s DCI Statement & Priorities through appropriate words and actions.
  • Serve as a student advisor and participate in Chapel, department meetings, and school-wide programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute actively to the broader school community.
  • Fulfill other elements of the school’s Essential Expectations and Standards of Excellence in Teaching.
  • Lead all defensive practices, game operations, and strategic planning in alignment with the Head Coach’s vision.
  • Install and teach defensive schemes, including fronts, coverages, pressures, situational strategies, and weekly adjustments.
  • Mentor and evaluate defensive coaches and student-athletes to support growth and performance.
  • Conduct film study, opponent scouting, and statistical analysis to inform game plans.
  • Assist with practice design and ensure efficient progression through individual, group, and team periods.
  • Support offseason strength, conditioning, and skill-development programs.
  • Ensure consistent terminology, instruction, and culture across Freshman, JV, and Varsity levels.
  • Maintain clear communication among coaches, players, and program leadership.
  • Manage defensive operations such as equipment coordination and scheduling support.
  • Uphold safety, sportsmanship, and student welfare, including required certifications.
