The Facility Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of GRTC’s buildings and grounds. Under the direction of a Facility Concierge Supervisor or Facility Custodian Team Lead, custodians are responsible for:

Requirements

  • Experience in custodial work preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, materials, and safety rules.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motion for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and climb stairs as required.
  • Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation.
  • Familiarity with custodial tools and power equipment (vacuums, buffers, etc.).
  • Ability to mix and apply cleaning chemicals according to guidelines.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and ability to work safely.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining clean and orderly facilities through routine and deep cleaning.
  • Performing daily custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing floors.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms; restocking supplies.
  • Dusting furniture, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Cleaning windows, mirrors, and partitions using approved chemicals.
  • Emptying trash and removing waste from assigned areas daily.
  • Shampooing or steam-cleaning carpets and rugs.
  • Polishing and maintaining building fixtures.
  • Handling cleaning solutions and chemicals safely in accordance with instructions.
  • Using power cleaning equipment such as vacuums and floor buffers
  • Following all safety protocols and hazard prevention guidelines.
  • Managing inventory and informing supervisors of supply needs or maintenance issues
  • Performing additional custodial tasks as assigned.
