The Facility Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of GRTC’s buildings and grounds. Under the direction of a Facility Concierge Supervisor or Facility Custodian Team Lead, custodians are responsible for:

Requirements

Experience in custodial work preferred but not required.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, materials, and safety rules.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motion for extended periods.
Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and climb stairs as required.
Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation.
Familiarity with custodial tools and power equipment (vacuums, buffers, etc.).
Ability to mix and apply cleaning chemicals according to guidelines.
Awareness of occupational hazards and ability to work safely.

Responsibilities

Maintaining clean and orderly facilities through routine and deep cleaning.
Performing daily custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing floors.
Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms; restocking supplies.
Dusting furniture, walls, and other surfaces.
Cleaning windows, mirrors, and partitions using approved chemicals.
Emptying trash and removing waste from assigned areas daily.
Shampooing or steam-cleaning carpets and rugs.
Polishing and maintaining building fixtures.
Handling cleaning solutions and chemicals safely in accordance with instructions.
Using power cleaning equipment such as vacuums and floor buffers
Following all safety protocols and hazard prevention guidelines.
Managing inventory and informing supervisors of supply needs or maintenance issues
Performing additional custodial tasks as assigned.
