About The Position

Facilities Technician II Kalamazoo Nature Center (KNC) Full-Time | $18–22/hour | Monday–Friday 7:30am–4:00pm Are you an experienced maintenance, carpentry, or construction professional who takes pride in solid, hands-on work? The Kalamazoo Nature Center is looking for a dependable Facilities Technician II who can step in, work independently, and help keep our buildings and grounds in top shape year-round. This is steady, full-time work in a unique setting — 1,500 acres of woods, trails, and facilities that serve thousands of visitors each year. You’ll work both indoors and outdoors, in all Michigan weather conditions. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant maintenance, facilities, or skilled trades experience
  • Strong working knowledge of basic heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and basic carpentry
  • Experience operating and maintaining tractors, plow trucks, skid-steers, and small engine equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and work on your feet throughout the day
  • Comfortable working in rough terrain and adverse weather
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under KNC’s vehicle policy
  • Reliable, self-directed, and able to problem-solve without constant supervision

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic heating and cooling systems, plumbing, and electrical issues
  • Complete carpentry repairs and improvements
  • Open and close facilities and maintain security
  • Handle routine water monitoring
  • Operate tractors, plow trucks, skid-steers, utility vehicles, golf carts, and landscaping equipment
  • Manage snow removal and seasonal grounds work
  • Set up and tear down spaces for programs, rentals, and events
  • Travel occasionally to offsite KNC properties for cleaning and maintenance
  • Participate in scheduled on-call emergency rotation
  • Assist with large events like Maple Sugar Festival and all-staff workdays
