About The Position

Electric Boats Facilities and Real Estate Department is searching for an individual to fulfill the important role of Facilities Capital Projects Representative / Systems Engineer. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing and supporting shipyard capital expansion, renovation and improvement projects of ocean assets. Listed below are some of the many responsibilities for which this individual will be responsible: Develop engineering and design requirements, generate scope requirements, and front end engineering documents to enable capital project design kickoff(s)Provide technical oversight to the design of new floating assets or modifications to existing floating assets.Provide overall project management duties in the development, design, execution, and closeout of ocean asset new capital and/or capital renovation / improvement projects Participate in the formation and administration of design, consultant, and shipbuilder / contractor / construction manager agreements required to execute capital expansion, renovation and improvement projects of ocean assetsLead diverse, multi-functional teams in the design and construction of capital expansion projects, including but not limited to internal Company teams, third party / Owner project managers, engineers, shipbuilding companies, material testing agencies, construction managers, general contractors, and suppliersWork to establish and maintain capital budgets including submitting monthly accruals, budget forecasts, and reconciliation of actuals; provide explanations for variances and any proposed adjustmentsMaintain project budget and schedule for all project team including internal Company and external contractors and vendorsWork with Facilities leads and management, complex system end users and particularly business unit leaders to ensure that objectives are being met; coordinate duties with Real Estate and Facilities leadershipRegular inspection of ocean asset capital projects with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to review quality of work and adherence to contractual requirements and standardsCoordinate project management requirements with Legal; Environmental, Health, and Safety; Security, Fire Department; and Real Estate and Facilities, as well as with operational groups

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Engineering discipline
  • 1-5 years of experience in the area of ocean engineering, naval architecture, or project management related to ocean assets

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in development, design, and construction of commercial ocean asset(s)
  • Strong project management and personnel management skills
  • Ability to motivate and lead multi-disciplinary project management, design, and construction teams
  • Strong negotiation, budget, and schedule management and reporting skills
  • Proficiency in understanding design and construction documents
  • Proficiency in submittal and RFI creation, review and disposition
  • Ability and experience to effectively use Microsoft programs including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

Responsibilities

  • Regular inspection of ocean asset capital projects with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to review quality of work and adherence to contractual requirements and standards
  • Coordinate project management requirements with Legal; Environmental, Health, and Safety; Security, Fire Department; and Real Estate and Facilities, as well as with operational groups
