About The Position

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and field leadership of maintenance activities and assigned facility improvement projects supporting company properties both outside the Port and, on a routine basis, within the Port of Wilmington. This role provides front-line supervision to technicians and contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with departmental priorities. The Supervisor supports capital and repair projects from planning through completion by assisting in scope development, coordinating resources, and actively monitoring field execution. The position requires strong practical knowledge of building systems, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to translate management direction into successful operational outcomes.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
  • Minimum 3–7 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or industrial environments.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, track, and close work orders, manage assets, and support reporting.
  • Practical project management experience supporting facility or construction projects, including coordinating schedules, contractors, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating vendors or leading small to mid-scale projects.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and construction trades.
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in active industrial and port environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills, including attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strength in leadership, judgment, supporting and enforcing safe work practices, and customer service.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven track record for meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks as needed and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. required.
  • Ability to work well and interact with visitors, suppliers/vendors, staff in the same department and staff from other departments.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules with the ability to work extended hours including weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or overnight shifts as required.
  • Ability to travel to other Company operations when needed.
  • Must have a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card or meet the eligibility requirements to obtain one, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management training or certification, preferred but not required.
  • OSHA certification, preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in maritime, logistics, or high-security facilities, preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily direction and task coordination for maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure safe and effective execution of work.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for facilities issues at assigned properties outside the port, while routinely supporting projects and operations inside the port.
  • Assist in developing project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and material requirements.
  • Coordinate contractor access, escorts, safety compliance, and work sequencing.
  • Monitor project progress in the field to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies and recommend corrective or preventative actions.
  • Support emergency response activities and help coordinate rapid resolution of facility issues.
  • Maintain clear communication with Facilities Management regarding project status, risks, and resource needs.
  • Verify completed work, assist with punch lists, and support project closeout documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, and asset information within department systems.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and safe work practices.
