About The Position

Job Summary: Perform a variety of duties involved in the loading, unloading, and set up of furniture and equipment to include driving trucks, vans and other college vehicles and related equipment and tools. Receive and unpack shipments. Provide support services for all special events to include operating transportation vehicles and equipment and performing tasks associated with setting up and taking down event equipment such as tables, chairs, tents, and stages.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Experience driving and operating vans or trucks; carts, and elevators
  • Ability to regularly climb stairs, lift, move, or carry 80 lbs
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and varied tasks, work well as part of a team, and have the flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends
  • Successfully pass background check
  • Ability to travel and possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and the adherence to the requirements set forth by the Ithaca College Office of Risk Management

Responsibilities

  • Receive and unpack shipments; load and unload furniture and supplies; transport items on, to, and from Ithaca College and participate in setting up and assembling miscellaneous office furniture, desks, cabinets, and other equipment.
  • Drive, operate and inspect trucks, vans and other college vehicles and equipment used in the set up and delivery of furniture, desks, cabinets, and other equipment.
  • Assemble, move, load, and unload residence hall lounge and room furniture. Loft and un-loft beds per student requests and as required for special events.
  • Support special campus events to include set up and take down of equipment and materials such as chairs, tables, tents, and stages; operate a forklift and other light equipment as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, co-workers, and supervisors by responding to questions; giving directions and providing advice as appropriate.
  • Maintain storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in mandated training courses and other professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in the training and instruction of new employees in the operation of trucks and related equipment; provide training and direction to student staff.
  • Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful college community.
  • Participate in snow removal to include shoveling sidewalks and entry ways.
  • Participate in special projects and light furniture repair as assigned.
