About The Position

This is the entry level into the facilities services series. Incumbents perform basic custodial, building or grounds maintenance, or general laborer work. Duties might include: picking up trash and debris, mowing the grass; performing building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; vacuuming; cleaning and maintaining restrooms; and, performing general laborer type work such as moving furniture and room set-up. Incumbents may also operate light equipment such as vehicles, tractors, and mowers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
• Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of: Customer service principles; Inventory maintenance principles; Safe work practices; Methods and tools used in assigned area of responsibility; Hand and power tools; Basic mathematical functions; Applicable tools and equipment utilized in performing daily activities.
• Skill in: Providing customer service; Operating tools and equipment in assigned area of responsibility; Performing routine carpentry and groundskeeping tasks; Comprehending written materials; Performing routine preventative maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles; Performing basic mathematical calculations; Driving a motor vehicle; Reading and understanding elementary blueprints, sketches, plans, diagrams and other instructional/directive materials; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor activities, which includes: emptying trash cans; gathering materials and equipment; placing materials and/or equipment in proper locations; sweeping; setting up furniture and/or equipment; digging; cleaning; moving furnishings; painting; and/or, performing other related tasks.
• Assists and responds to internal customer requests for assistance, inquiries, and/or other related requests; and responds to emergency situations as required to ensure the safety of students and staff.
• Maintains facilities, vehicles, and/or equipment utilized in daily activities; troubleshoots, maintains and performs simple repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment; monitors inventory of supplies.
• Notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs.
• Under direction, performs routine, minor repairs.
• Assists in performing routine grounds maintenance activities, including picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and weeding planter areas.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
