About The Position

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond is one of the largest comprehensive art museums in the United States, housing over 50,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years. It boasts significant collections including Fabergé, Art Nouveau, American art, Chinese art, English silver, French Impressionism, Postimpressionism, British sporting art, and modern and contemporary art, as well as South Asian, Himalayan, and African art. VMFA is a state-supported, privately endowed educational institution open 365 days a year with free general admission, dedicated to collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting art to enrich lives. The Facility Services team is responsible for maintaining the appealing appearance of the museum, supporting artwork exhibits and patron education, and assisting Enterprise by setting up and taking down areas for Special Events.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Some knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment
  • Working skills in the operation of power cleaning equipment such as wet vacuums, floor scrubbers, high-speed floor buffers and vacuum cleaners
  • Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects
  • Ability to move furniture
  • Ability to set up and take down events
  • Ability to give and receive instructions
  • Ability to read and write
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with others
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours
  • Ability to use hands to handle equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds
