About The Position

Perform at a general/basic level in at least one Industrial/Commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics /Fire Alarms) for maintenance and repair of specialized equipment/machinery. The successful candidate may be required to pass a Department of Justice security clearance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent and basic knowledge in industrial /commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e., Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms).
  • Two years of general experience working in at least one of the above-mentioned crafts.
  • Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services.
  • This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. from the floor to the knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing, and walking.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for customers for all Property Services (Physical Plant).
  • Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
  • Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Assists in major maintenance repairs.
  • Performs duties associated with all crafts, as developing skills safely allows.
  • Support area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed for an institution that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness list, i.e., E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team).
  • Complete all UTMB-required compliance training.
  • Attend staff training and safety meetings.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
