Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Facilities Manager will be an integral member of the finance and operations team in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. This role will perform on-site facilities and fixed assets management of all ISE facilities, both on campus and leased spaces. The Facilities Manager will be asked to demonstrate initiative, exercise independent judgement, and use strong problem-solving skills to perform their job duties. They should continuously strive for improved process efficiency with a focus on implementation of best practices in compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines. Responsibilities include coordinating and managing minor renovations and reconfiguration of facilities, labs, and work spaces; coordinating financial activity of facilities projects and equipment acquisition, securing needed materials, furniture, fixtures, repairs, and equipment; managing accurate records of space utilization; responding to requests for facilities services and initiating work orders; managing department fixed assets inventory, lab equipment purchases, surplus, transfer of used equipment, and all related activities; ensuring proper organization and management of project documents and records; interfacing with ISE faculty, staff, and students, as well as Virginia Tech facilities, contractors, and service providers; managing key control and Hokie Passport activities; managing network infrastructure and services (NI&S) activities; and serving as the emergency coordinator for the department, ensuring compliance with pertinent regulations and policies regarding Lab Safety and Emergency Action Planning.

  • Ability to move, climb, and work from elevated work stations such as ladders.
  • Ability to work standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Virginia Tech systems such as Banner, HokieMart, HokieServ, and COLA Portal.
  • Working knowledge of Virginia Tech processes and procedures related to facilities operations, fixed assets, key control, space, and emergency management.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to purchasing and request for waiver of competition activities.
  • Experience and understanding of general lab safety procedures and planning, laboratory furniture, fixtures, lab safety, chemical waste disposal, and requirements of a research laboratory environment.
  • Basic knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems from a facilities management perspective.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and HHS regulations.
  • Experience related to equipment purchasing, building renovations, quotes, and leases.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of experience/training.
