About The Position

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a network of charter schools serving students across the TK–Post Secondary continuum in the Greater MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Pueblo Nuevo Education & Development Group (PNEDG) is CNCA’s resource development and capacity-building arm. PNEDG invests in young people to foster personal transformation and generational social change. PNEDG staff support and build capacity for CNCA schools in achieving their vision. We integrate progressive, research-based academics with a holistic, place-based approach to serving our students. CNCA has six campuses serving approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade and post-secondary programming. The Facilities Manager is the operational right hand to the Director of Facilities and a key leader on the Strategy & Operations team. Under the direct supervision of the VP of Strategy & Operations, this role manages custodial services, the athletic soccer field, the Yellow House, and the facilities ticketing/work order system. The Facilities Manager ensures CNCA spaces are clean, safe, functional, and welcoming; supervises custodial and grounds teams; and coordinates across campuses, vendors, and community partners to ensure facilities needs are tracked, responded to, and resolved on time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required; will consider Associate’s Degree/two years of college + two (2) years of related work experience OR four (4) years of related work experience (plus any additional required experience)
  • 4+ years of responsible experience in custodial, grounds, and/or facilities maintenance, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial, grounds, and building maintenance work.
  • Principles of supervising, training, evaluating, and assigning work to teams.
  • Experience using or managing facilities ticketing/work order systems; ability to analyze response-time and completion data to improve service.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing needs across sites.
  • Working knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations related to schools.
  • Effective interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; ability to work with school leaders, vendors, and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, and manage the work of custodians and grounds/maintenance personnel; ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety, and daily readiness at all assigned facilities.
  • Supervise custodial routines for classrooms, restrooms, offices, libraries, and shared spaces; ensure appropriate deep-clean and special-event coverage.
  • Build, maintain, and adjust custodial schedules for routine cleaning, special projects, school breaks, and emergency response.
  • Inspect buildings and grounds regularly to verify sanitation, safety, and curb-appeal standards; address hazards promptly.
  • Ensure safe storage and correct use of cleaning agents, tools, and equipment; model and enforce safety procedures.
  • Coordinate custodial coverage for events, evening/weekend activities, and emergency response as needed.
  • Oversee cleanliness, safety, and ongoing maintenance of CNCA’s soccer/athletic field.
  • Identify needs for improvements or repairs; coordinate vendors or internal crews to complete work to standard and on time.
  • Ensure field areas meet safety expectations for student and community use.
  • Serve as the day-to-day facilities and operations lead for the Yellow House, ensuring safety, cleanliness, functionality, and high-quality presentation of the property.
  • Conduct scheduled walkthroughs/inspections with the Director of Facilities and with management partners as needed; escalate risks and improvement needs to the VP of Strategy & Ops.
  • Assign and support with CNCA’s facilities ticketing/work order system, ensuring it is consistently used and reflects real-time site needs.
  • Review, triage, and assign tickets to custodial, grounds, maintenance staff, or vendors based on urgency and scope.
  • Monitor ticket progress daily; follow up with staff/vendors to remove barriers and ensure timely completion.
  • Produce regular reports (weekly/monthly) on ticket volume, response times, completion rates, and outstanding needs.
  • Work with the Director of Facilities to implement preventive maintenance programs for assigned buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Inspect building systems and equipment (HVAC, alarms, irrigation, gates/locks, restroom fixtures, etc.) to maintain safety and effectiveness; coordinate skilled trades or vendors for specialized repairs.
  • Perform minor repairs to custodial tools, fixtures, and grounds equipment; document larger repair needs and route to Director of Facilities.
  • Maintain readiness for emergencies and respond to off-hours call-backs as needed.
  • Support the Director of Facilities in ensuring facilities meet and pass all health, safety, and fire inspections for assigned areas; address compliance gaps promptly.
  • Maintain records for safety systems (fire extinguishers, sprinklers, shut-off locations, inspection logs) and ensure staff follow protocols.
  • Support site security operations including alarms, campus lock-up procedures, and coordination with school leadership.
  • Prepare routine reports on repairs, vandalism, emergencies, staffing, and operational needs.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate custodial/grounds staff; provide clear direction, coaching, professional development, and accountability.
  • Lead regular team meetings to reinforce standards, safety requirements, and service culture.
  • Build a positive, solutions-oriented facilities team that models care for students, staff, and community spaces.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support broader Facilities and Strategy & Operations goals.
