JOB SUMMARY Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician assists in performing work related to general facilities, maintenance, custodial services, special projects, building enhancements, and ensure that OSHA requirements are met. The Facilities Technician assists in conducting and recording safety walks, following up on safety issues to resolution, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the facilities and occupants. Assists the Facilities Manager in managing and scheduling routine tasks and prioritize responsibilities to meet the needs of the business. Assists in assuring that weekly, monthly, and annual safety procedures and walks are performed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, OR 7+ years of experience in facilities or building maintenance required.
  • Facilities Maintenance: 3-5 years’ experience in facilities or building maintenance.
  • Organizational Knowledge: Familiarity with VG rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of chemicals, cleaning supplies, safety precautions, and OSHA standards.
  • Representation & Conduct: Experience representing the organization positively and professionally, interacting with employees, board members, governmental and private entities, donors, suppliers, vendors, and the public with respect and dignity.
  • Availability: Commitment to work throughout the year to meet organizational needs.
  • Required: EPA Section 608 Certification (for handling refrigerants).
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using tools, materials, and methods for general building maintenance, including hand and power tools.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret information accurately, write clearly, and edit for clarity, spelling, and grammar. Advanced presentation skills, including group presentation and meeting participation.
  • Office Equipment: Proficiency in using office equipment.
  • Interpersonal & Leadership Skills: Strong motivational and staff leadership skills. Effective relationship-building skills, fostering collaborative partnerships within the organization. Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing supportive relationships with staff and board members.
  • Judgment & Problem-Solving: Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities. Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and initiative-driven approach.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrates passion, compassion, and professionalism consistently.
  • Independence & Multi-Tasking: Capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.

  • Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach frequently.
  • Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Close vision required to see computer monitors, read documents, and operate copy and fax machines.
  • Distance vision is required to drive an automobile if driving is a requirement of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Certification.
  • Optional but Preferred: NATE Certification or equivalent HVAC certification.
