About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining the safe, efficient, and professional operation of Alertus's headquarters. This role requires a broad skill set to ensure all building systems and the physical environment are well-maintained and compliant with all standards. The areas of responsibility include facilities maintenance and repair, building improvements, inspections and certifications, custodial services, landscape services, and contractual services coordination and oversight. A Day in the Life: Maintain the facilities HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety equipment and systems. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to building equipment and structures (e.g., lighting, painting, drywall, basic electrical, ceiling tiles). Maintain the overall physical appearance of the facility and groundskeeping. This may include snow and ice removal, window cleaning, etc. Manage trash and recycling collection and pickup. Ensure fire code compliance standards are met daily. Monitor and inspect the building and exterior premises for fire, security, and general safety issues. Assist with internal logistics, including moving office furniture, hanging white boards, and setting up for meetings. Work with the management team on various special projects and assist outside contractors as needed. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment to keep the facility operating efficiently. Coordinate general maintenance and necessary measures for pest prevention and control as needed. Assist events and production teams with major receiving or pickup shipments as needed. Work closely with 311 and the Downtown Partnership for city-related services and issues. Identify and recommend changes and/or improvements to the facility. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the following trades/skills: HVAC, electric, plumbing, carpentry, & life safety equipment & systems.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and general maintenance tasks independently.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Knowledge of building safety standards.
  • Ability to perform well under a high volume of requests.
  • Must possess a valid MD driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Must be comfortable with heights and working on ladders.
  • Willing to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in Commercial Facility Maintenance

Nice To Haves

  • Skilled Trade Certification preferred
  • Own hand tools preferred (wrenches, saws, drills, screwdrivers, gauges, etc.)
