About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Facilities Maintenance Technician to join the busy Facilities Department at our historic headquarters, the Guaranty Building in Buffalo, New York. In this role, you will be responsible for general maintenance and repairs in skills such as, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting. We are open to part-time, full-time or temporary position, primarily working Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; however, occasional shift relief work is required during evenings, weekends and holidays. The position reports to the Facilities Manager and we are seeking an individual that will take pride in maintaining and preserving the legacy of our prestigious building.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time commercial building maintenance experience, carpentry, construction or similar work experience required
  • Completion of facilities related courses or commercial building maintenance preferred, including proper safety practices, procedures and regulations
  • Basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills required
  • Commensurate combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License in accordance with DMV regulations required. Building and Trades certifications preferred
  • Initiative, perseverance and creativity in meeting department and firm objectives, with ability to effectively problem-solve around challenges
  • Competent in the full range of computer software related to the position including an automated facilities work order software (preferred) and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, small power tools, and equipment required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required, with the ability to receive and respond to work assignments and e-mails
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accomplish office or other moves, special events or maintenance projects, and for shift coverage for time off of other colleague team members
  • Must be physically capable to push/pull or lift 50 lbs. without assistance (e.g. most be able to operate a snow blower without assistance, or lift boxes)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain interior and exterior building, including regular snow and seasonal debris removal from sidewalks, steps and entranceways
  • Assist with furniture moves of offices or conference rooms and other related tasks
  • Perform wall repair, patch and painting
  • Make routine repairs to plumbing fixtures (e.g., commercial toilets, sinks, faucets) and minor electrical and other work as required
  • Assist Stationary Engineer with HVAC preventative maintenance.
