About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks. Work may involve one or more fields e.g., carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, HVAC, plumbing, etc. Tasks include general maintenance and cleaning, painting, floor repair and upkeep, maintenance of mechanical equipment, and other responsibilities as assigned by the director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and vocational or technical school training, and
  • At least two (2) years of experience in general maintenance; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds
  • Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
  • Must pass a motor vehicle pre-employment investigation.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • During emergencies and disasters affecting Live Oak Public Libraries, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
  • In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years’ building maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry preferred.
  • Experience in multiple skilled crafts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine to semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities, including carpentry, painting, mechanical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, custodial, or other maintenance projects.
  • Perform electrical tasks such as installing electrical receptacles and switches, repairing electrical components, tripping/replacing breakers or replacing light bulbs and ballasts.
  • Perform plumbing tasks such as installing/repairing plumbing fixtures, clearing/unstopping water lines and drains, repairing commodes, repairing plumbing leaks, and maintaining/repairing sprinkler systems.
  • Perform tasks involving maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, check the temperature on HVAC units, maintain HVAC systems, clean fans and condenser coils, clean/replace filters, lubricate and replace bearings, and adjust and replace belts.
  • Perform tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, or construction projects, paint interior/exterior surfaces, install, adjust, and repair doors and hardware, replace windows, doors, and glass panes, lubricate hardware, and will assemble, repair, install or move tables, cabinets, shelving, or furniture.
  • Communicates with facilities management about any work that requires outside expert assistance.
  • Receives and responds to reports of mechanical or maintenance issues via electronic delivery.
  • Ability to use technology devices, email, internet, databases, and other software applicable to job duties.
  • Works with tools and supplies necessary to complete projects.
  • Maintains safety procedures at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Assist with library deliveries as needed.
