About The Position

Facilities Maintenance Technician II: Incumbents perform journey-level assignments in the maintenance and repair of MCHD facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: electrical system modifications, electrical and mechanical equipment repairs, maintenance of electrical, electronic, pneumatic and mechanical controls, safety and environmental controls (HVAC system), general building maintenance, preventive maintenance, locksmithing, and record keeping. Ensures work performed meets code requirements and County guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journey level experience in one or more building trades preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in building equipment/systems maintenance and operation which includes one year of hands-on experience in controls.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials and practices associated with building and grounds maintenance, including woodworking, heating and ventilation systems, plumbing and electrical installations, refrigeration systems, welding, concrete finish and masonry is essential.
  • Moderate word processing database and spreadsheet skills required.
  • Basic Email and Internet skills required.
  • Maintain current Texas Driver’s License.
  • Remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD.
  • Required NIMS Training as referenced in the Safety & Emergency Management Policy SEM 27-201.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and diagnoses problems with boiler system, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic control systems/components, fire alarm, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), security and other complex systems in MCHD facilities.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on MCHD facilities & major pieces of equipment, including: air compressors, air handler units, fans, pumps, water heaters, as assigned. Keeps detailed preventive maintenance records.
  • Evaluates work order to determine scope and work procedures necessary to perform job.
  • Fulfills work order requests, including closing out the work order when completed if necessary.
  • Assists with key system and records, including: keying locks, making keys, maintaining inventory, training, key issuing, and record keeping.
  • Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools and test equipment.
  • Assures adherence to safety rules, regulations, procedures, and precautions while involved in work tasks.
  • Maintains record of materials and labor expended on each assignment.
  • Grants physical access based on needs and with approval from appropriate supervisors/managers.
  • Works with third party vendors or subcontractors to accomplish appropriate tasks.
  • Participates in on call rotation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
