Job Summary: The Facilities Fire Systems Technician – Level 4 performs intermediate-level inspection, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire protection and life-safety systems to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance. Within the Facilities organization, this role applies expanded technical knowledge, provides technical guidance to Level 3 technicians, and supports complex system diagnostics and repairs. This position includes fire brigade support responsibilities in addition to primary fire systems duties. Personnel respond to fire alarms, thermal events, and emergency situations as part of the site brigade while continuing to support facility operations. Because this is not a full-time standby fire position, response may require transitioning from active facility work, accessing gear, and responding to the scene as needed. Working with minimal supervision, this position collaborates with internal teams, contractors, and local authorities to support safe, compliant, and resilient facility operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or 2 years of prior experience in functional area
  • Current state-issued driver's license
  • Firefighter I Certification
  • 3+ years of experience as a Fire Systems Technician, Emergency Responder (EMS, LE, FD), or relevant field
  • SCBA fit testing and firefighter physical clearance required
  • Ability to lift, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces
  • Capable of performing emergency response duties while wearing full structural firefighting PPE
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Experience troubleshooting low-voltage systems, including fire alarm, security, or building automation wiring
  • Working knowledge of water-based fire protection systems, including wet, dry, standpipe, and hydrant systems
  • Ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals
  • Ability to coordinate contractor activities within assigned scope
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate-level inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on fire alarm, suppression, and life-safety systems
  • Develop and maintain intermediate-level knowledge of site-specific hazards and response procedures to serve as a technical resource for Level 3 technicians during routine and emergency operations
  • Operate and maintain fire brigade tools and equipment, including inventory control
  • Troubleshoot complex or recurring system issues and implement corrective actions within established procedures
  • Coordinate contractor access and activities during inspections, testing, and repairs
  • Review contractor documentation for completeness and report discrepancies or deficiencies
  • Perform initial emergency response actions for thermal events and unwanted system activations, coordinating with internal teams and external responders
  • Perform preventative maintenance and verify completion of corrective actions
  • Identify trends in system deficiencies and recommend improvements to maintenance practices
  • Support root cause evaluations for system failures or unwanted activations
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of maintenance records, inspection documentation, and system impairment logs
  • Train and mentor technicians at the same or lower level
  • Support ongoing certification and technical development efforts (NICET, OSHA, manufacturer training)
  • Participate in fire brigade, hazardous materials, and confined space response training
  • Support fire brigade drills and operational readiness activities
  • Participate in thermal event, safety, and emergency response training
  • Maintain working knowledge of site hazards, emergency procedures, and system interdependencies
  • Maintain qualifications required for fire brigade support duties
  • Support documentation and communication of lessons learned and system performance issues
  • Collaborate with Facilities, EHS, Emergency Management, contractors, and external agencies to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Participate in inspections involving Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) as needed
  • Maintain assigned systems in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company policies
  • Support Permit to Work activities involving fire protection system impairments
  • Assist in coordinating fire protection system impairments and restorations in accordance with established procedures
  • Fulfill assigned fire brigade responsibilities consistent with training and site procedures
  • Support proper implementation of processes and procedures
  • Maintain 6S and plant quality standards
  • Meet PPE and physical requirements
  • Work all assigned shift hours
