About The Position

The Facilities Director is responsible for all new construction and special projects to include new low income housing projects. He/she also directs maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment under the control of Veterans Village of San Diego. This includes adherence to all OSHA requirements, as well as any other facilities-related terms within our funding contracts and grants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, and at least 3 years’ experience in an office environment
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at a time and problem solve in an efficient manner
  • Communicate orally and verbally in English
  • Capable of learning new technology
  • Show integrity to complete tasks according to standard operating procedures with little supervision
  • Work with others who are from diverse backgrounds and have differing opinions
  • Ability to sense and abate safety hazards
  • Ability to bend and lift light objects
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  • Capable of hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Seeing to read reports and data
  • Ability to speak English
  • Ability to work in a noisy, busy environment

Responsibilities

  • Schedules assignments and receives progress reports for on-going projects, donations, and special assignments.
  • Receives and reviews applications and interviews prospective employee’s for the Facilities Department.
  • Responsible for ensuring all construction projects are on track and within budget.
  • Meets, at a minimum, weekly with the Facilities / Maintenance Manager to discuss issues that affect the maintenance or improvement of all facilities and equipment under the control of Veterans Village of San Diego.
  • Directs all contract laborers coming to service our Facility.
  • Reviews and approves purchase orders for services, materials, and equipment for all departments under his direction.
  • Reviews and submits request for petty cash and other re-imbursements.
  • Reviews various monthly bills, checking for discrepancies or errors. After review, approves and submits bills to finance for payment.
  • Formulates or approves strategies used to complete maintenance or improvements to properties.
  • Attends meetings as a representative of VVSD at the City, Executive Meetings, Resident Meetings, City of San Diego, County of San Diego, State, and Federal meetings, as required.
  • Works closely with the Chaplain to ensure that the annual Stand Down event occurs on time and within budget.
