The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Facilities Services Division is responsible for the execution of the District’s school construction bond programs, the maintenance and operations of schools, and the planning of facilities assets.   The Asset Management Branch has strategic responsibility for the District’s facility planning function. This includes long-range master planning, project development, performance specifications, and construction acquisition programs for new and charter schools. The Branch also provides functional direction in areas such as Planning and Design Management, School Management Services, Real Estate, Standards, and Relocatable Housing. Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in construction management, urban design, engineering, or architecture.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree. A Certificate of Registration and a valid license to practice as a professional architect or engineer in the State of California or a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential is required within nine months of employment.
  • Six years of full time, paid-professional experience with the responsibility for preconstruction activities, architectural planning, design, construction, or development of major facilities.
  • A master’s degree obtained from a recognized college or university in architecture, engineering, construction management, or urban design may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
  • A valid California Driver License
  • Use of an automobile

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of facilities planning and pre-construction processes, including architectural planning, design coordination, and school construction and modernization.
  • Experience in K-12 facility planning, design, development and/or construction is preferable.
  • They will take initiative and demonstrate accountability by managing assigned projects and pre-construction activities from scope development through readiness for construction.
  • We are seeking an experienced pre-construction project manager capable of overseeing multiple concurrent projects and exercising sound judgment in resolving complex issues related to schedules, budgets, quality control, and disputes.
  • The candidate will be an effective team player who collaborates closely with District departments, consultants, public agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to prepare and present clear reports and recommendations are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Facilities Asset Development Director in the development of project scope and coordination of architectural planning, design, funding, and development of school facilities.
  • Providing functional direction over pre-construction project schedules, cost control, dispute resolution, and quality control.
  • Reviewing pre-construction project status to monitor schedule and budget variances relative to submitted schedules.
  • Assisting in coordinating the pre-construction program activities and related work products of those in other District branches and departments such as the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Real Estate, Community Outreach, School Management Services/ MPD and Maintenance and Operations, Project Execution, Facilities Contracts, and Procurement.
  • Resolving pre-construction project issues by resolving differences of opinion, conflicts in schedules, and disagreements over the most efficient approach to the plan and design of new schools.
  • Reviewing, recommending, and implementing program and project level policy and procedural innovations.
  • Coordinating with representatives from various utility and government agencies to obtain timely action on successive phases of project completion.
