About The Position

The Office of Physical Plant is seeking applicants for a Facilities Automation System Specialist. This position will report to the Facility Automation Services Manager and will be responsible for developing comprehensive applications and engineered solutions for specific projects, as well as providing technical support to the field organization. This hybrid/office-based position is responsible for providing technical support and resolving issues with the PSU building automation alarming system, utilizing company tools and established operating protocols. Receives system trouble tickets from both internal and external sources to resolve building automation system issues. Some travel may be required. This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

Requirements

  • If filled as Facilities Automation Systems Specialist - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None
  • If filled as Facilities Automation Systems Specialist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None
  • Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and adjust alarms in all BAS that are delivered to dispatchers
  • Support third-party alarming software,, including ensuring alarms, assets, spaces, and equipment are accurate.
  • Manage all remote notifications (text, emails) that are sent out from the BAS.
  • Maintain an external database of remote notification contacts for all PSU buildings and campuses.
  • Troubleshoot system issues related to remote notifications.
  • Participate in the new construction review and approval process required for PSU to take ownership of all BAS-related construction projects. All system alarm points are reviewed for proper setup and notification.
  • Review BAS systems and look for redundant or toggling alarms. Work with technicians to troubleshoot issues in the field as necessary.
  • Adjust alarming parameters in the BAS to reduce alarm “noise”.
  • Utilize external software to review the alarm database to find troublesome or repeating alarms. Adjust parameters within BAS to reduce excessive alarms.
  • Participate in weekly BAS standards committee meetings as needed to provide an alarming perspective on official FAS standards and sequences.
  • Weekly clean-up alarms on commonwealth and construction servers. Operators do not monitor alarms on construction servers, so alarms are not acknowledged or deleted as they would be on the production servers that are monitored by operators. This requires weekly cleanup as normal maintenance practices. (Every Friday)
  • Maintain, adjust, and set up alarm categories and templates within the BAS. Install and adjust alarm icons as needed.
  • Set up and maintain databases within the BAS. Source tree rules, geographical tree setup, and programming unrelated to alarms.
  • Work with technicians to troubleshoot and modify non-alarm programming issues within BAS
  • Provide backup to FAS tech support group when extra help is required (answering tech line, supporting work tickets, etc.)
  • Modify programming as space use changes, and sensors/connected devices require removal.
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning up of assigned ALC servers (all analysts are assigned one or more servers) Running locked value reports, and following up on database errors.
