About The Position

Under general supervision, the Facilities and Maintenance Lead oversees the operations, cleanliness and appearance of school facilities on a daily basis so that the school sustains a welcoming and healthy environment for students and visitors. Work involves maintaining HVAC systems, other operational systems, performing and/ or coordinating bus maintenance, and ensuring school facilities are prepared for student learning. He/she must exercise tact and courtesy in maintaining acceptable relations with students, parents/guardians of students, and school personnel. On a limited basis, the Facilities and Maintenance Lead may perform a variety of other duties to support effective and efficient school operations, such as assisting with the daily lunch service.

Requirements

  • Substantial knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in custodial, grounds keeping and building maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate principles of training/evaluating and providing work direction.
  • Knowledge of methods of organizing, prioritizing and assigning work to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to operate a computer terminal.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to health and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relations.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions and instructions.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and demonstrate a positive attitude toward the job.

  • Ability to operate hand tools and job specific equipment and tools.
  • Ability to use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old and pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Current North Carolina commercial driver’s license with proper bus endorsements preferred, but not required.
  • Candidates who are willing to serve as a substitute bus driver will be given strong preference.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign and manage maintenance and operations systems; assure school buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment are operational and health, safety and security policies and guidelines are met.
  • Inspect school buildings and grounds to assure that proper safety, cleaning and sanitation standards are maintained; assume responsibility for the school alarm system.
  • Arrange for necessary repair work by vendors; contact vendors by telephone/email as necessary; inspect and review work performed to assure NEAAAT standards are met.
  • Operate a computerized energy management system.
  • Confer with school administrators in planning maintenance and cleaning of the school campus.
  • Order custodial supplies and materials needed to maintain school; direct delivery and warehousing of all school supplies.
  • Supervise custodial staff and their work to ensure facilities are clean and safe for student learning.
  • Assist in selection of custodial, grounds and maintenance personnel; train and evaluate personnel; conduct meetings with assigned personnel to provide technical work direction and general information.
  • Maintain records concerning personnel, work requests supplies and other matters; prepare reports as required; maintain time sheets and assign overtime; process necessary payroll forms.
  • Plan and implement a preventive maintenance program for school buildings and grounds.
  • Assure that all safety requirements are followed.
  • Respond to emergency call-backs during off-duty hours.
  • Attend all assigned meetings.
  • Maintain acceptable relations with students, parents/guardians of students, and school personnel.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or his/her designee.
  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures of NEAAAT, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
