About The Position

The Fabricator is responsible for designing, modifying, repairing, and constructing metal components, equipment parts, and structural supports used throughout company operations. This role supports the mechanics shop by improving equipment functionality, repairing damaged components, and assisting with custom builds for company vehicles, portable sanitation equipment, trailers, and other specialty equipment. The Fabricator plays a key role in maintaining equipment safety, durability, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Previous fabrication and welding experience required
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication tools and processes
  • Experience using cutting torches, welders, grinders, and metal forming equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and with shop team members
  • Lift and carry 50–75 pounds frequently
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
  • Perform overhead lifting and welding tasks
  • Work in indoor and outdoor shop environments
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures

Nice To Haves

  • Welding certifications preferred but not required
  • Experience working with fleet vehicles, trailers, or heavy equipment preferred
  • Basic hydraulic or mechanical knowledge preferred
  • Experience working in a fleet or industrial shop environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, repair, and modify metal components using welding, cutting, grinding, and forming equipment
  • Construct and modify brackets, supports, frames, mounts, and structural components
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding as required
  • Measure, cut, and assemble metal materials accurately
  • Assist mechanics with fabrication needs for fleet vehicles and sanitation equipment
  • Repair structural damage to trailers, trucks, dumpsters, restroom trailers, and related equipment
  • Modify equipment to improve safety, functionality, and performance
  • Assist with installation of hydraulic components, lifting mechanisms, and mounting systems when required
  • Follow OSHA, company, and shop safety procedures
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Properly store materials and tools
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures when required
  • Inspect fabricated components for strength, safety, and accuracy
  • Maintain shop tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery
  • Ensure all fabricated work meets company and safety standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve durability and reduce equipment downtime
  • All other duties as assigned
