About The Position

Position Overview: The Fabricator IV builds precision components and custom machinery parts using advanced fabrication, welding, and machining techniques. This role requires interpreting and creating mechanical drawings, selecting appropriate materials, and executing fabrication processes with accuracy, craftsmanship, and strict adherence to quality and tolerance standards. The Fabricator IV operates a wide range of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and manual equipment, performs material handling tasks, maintains fabrication tools and machinery, and may lead small crews on remote assignments up to 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • 2-year technical diploma in welding, joining, or related field and 4 years of fabrication experience OR 6 years of fabrication experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to fabricate and weld within required tolerances:
  • Square, level, plumb, layout, and cut dimension: ±1/32”
  • Fabrication dimension: ±1/16”
  • Ability to self-motivate and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must provide personal, basic hand tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform all job functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and bend for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must safely and effectively operate machining, fabrication, and shop equipment while following all required safety procedures and PPE guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • CNC plasma training
  • CNC brake press training
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Certification
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Certification
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Apply mathematical skills including basic operations, fractions/decimals, units of measurement, Cartesian coordinates, and trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent, angles, radii).
  • Operate basic shop equipment including horizontal/vertical band saws, tap heads, drill/drivers, port‑a‑band, reciprocating saws, sanders, grinders, and hydraulic presses.
  • Fabricate machine parts using CNC water jet, CNC press brake, box and pan brake, sheet roller, Beverly shear, and custom jigs/fixtures.
  • Perform production setup using jigs, fixtures, and table clamps.
  • Visualize, design, and build custom jigs and fixtures for machining and fabrication.
  • Perform MIG welding, TIG welding (AC and DC), oxy‑fuel cutting/setup, and plasma cutting.
  • Weld all grades of steel (mild, stainless, A36, etc.) and aluminum proficiently.
  • Fabricate and weld within required tolerances:
  • Layout and cut dimension: ±1/32” maintaining square, level, and plumb conditions
  • Fabrication dimension: ±1/16”
  • Read, interpret, and create mechanical assembly drawings by hand and with software, including material sizes, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Lay out rectangular patterns, bolt circles, angles, keyway locations, and matching or large parts.
  • Identify different metal types and select appropriate materials for each application.
  • Perform hoisting and rigging operations; operate overhead cranes, jib hoists, and lift trucks.
  • Plan and execute critical lifts and machinery removal/installation with supervisor assistance.
  • Plan and execute fabrication jobs from start to finish.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on fabrication equipment.
  • Produce high quality, functional, and visually clean fabrications with pride in workmanship.
  • Train and mentor upcoming Fabricators.
  • Lead small crews on remote assignments (up to 10% travel).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work area.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Work overtime when necessary to meet production needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Engineering Manager.
