About The Position

The Maintenance Fabrication Technician specializes in the fabrication, repair, and modification of stainless-steel components using sanitary welding techniques to support plant operations and maintenance activities. This role ensures equipment reliability and compliance with hygienic standards by creating custom stainless-steel parts, modifying existing components, and assisting with installation projects while adhering to safety and quality requirements

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in welding/fabrication preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in fabrication with sanitary welding experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in TIG welding for stainless steel, including sanitary weld standards (AWS D18.1 or equivalent).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygienic standards.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various plant environments.
  • Proven computer skills with intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Can interpret shop manuals, blueprints and shop prints.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). SAP preferred.
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Access or similar database software is helpful.
  • Experience in the Food Processing Industry, including exposure to OSHA/USDA regulations.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stainless steel finishing and polishing
  • Knowledge of sanitary welding standards (AWS D18.1)
  • Equipment troubleshooting and repair
  • Safety compliance and hazard awareness

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, maintenance work orders, and schematics.
  • Fabricate custom stainless-steel parts and assemblies for machinery and plant infrastructure.
  • Perform sanitary TIG welding on stainless steel components to meet hygienic standards (e.g., smooth, crevice-free welds).
  • Operate welding equipment (TIG/MIG), cutting torches, grinders, and other stainless steel fabrication tools.
  • Polish and finish stainless steel surfaces to prevent contamination and ensure cleanability.
  • Assist in equipment installation, modification, and structural repairs using sanitary welding practices.
  • Maintain fabrication tools and equipment in safe working conditions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians and engineers to develop solutions for equipment issues.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage and OSHA compliance.
  • Document fabrication work and maintain records for traceability.
