Specific duties include but are not limited to Our Quincy, IL facility is seeking a hands-on Fabrication Supervisor / Manufacturing Engineer to lead daily fabrication operations while driving process improvement and manufacturing excellence. This role is responsible for supervising metal fabrication activities including cutting, forming, machining, and related operations, while also providing engineering support to optimize processes, reducing costs, and support new product introductions. The ideal candidate is a floor-focused leader with strong technical aptitude, Lean Manufacturing experience, and working knowledge of ISO quality systems and OSHA safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a fabrication or metal manufacturing environment.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience in a production setting.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machining, and metalworking processes.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of ISO quality systems and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings.
  • CAD proficiency (2D AutoCAD or DraftSight and 3D SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience with MRP systems and document control systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically as required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise fabrication personnel including machinists, operators, and technicians.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor daily work to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Drive performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Maintain adherence to ISO quality procedures and fabrication standards.
  • Coordinate resolution of shop floor issues including material shortages, scrap, rework, and equipment constraints.
  • Monitor labor efficiency, throughput, and productivity metrics.
  • Maintain accountability for fabrication inventory accuracy and WIP control.
  • Develop and coach employees to build a high-performing, team-based culture.
  • Design, develop, and improve fabrication processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Analyze workflow, plant layout, and equipment utilization to optimize throughput.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing documentation within MRP systems.
  • Conduct time studies and establish labor standards.
  • Design tooling, fixtures, and process improvements to enhance safety, quality, and repeatability.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing tools.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication process issues in a systematic and data-driven manner.
  • Provide disposition and corrective action for material and workmanship discrepancies.
  • Support capital equipment evaluation and implementation when required.
  • Support engineering during design reviews to ensure manufacturability and cost targets are achieved.
  • Lead fabrication readiness for pilot builds and production launches.
  • Develop process documentation, work instructions, and tool requirements for new products.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on fabricated components to ensure quality and cost objectives are met.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through product and process redesign.
