About The Position

The Boeing Company Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is currently seeking a Fabrication Specialist to join their team in North Charleston, South Carolina on Variable shift, including weekends. In this role, composite repair technicians will perform structural composite lay-ups using BMS8-276 fabric and unidirectional tape. The position requires knowledge of hole pots, overlay ply install, scarf repair, core potting, sweep and fill, curing repairs, and the ability for risk assessment and troubleshooting. Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in Aerospace, Fabrication, or Manufacturing
  • 1+ year of experience working with composites and/or composite manufacturing
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday
  • stand 6-8 hours per day
  • climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day
  • climb ladders
  • bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day
  • squat and kneel
  • Ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Availability to work variable shifts, with the understanding that your assigned shift will not be confirmed until after training
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process

Responsibilities

  • Performs structural composite lay-ups using fabric and unidirectional tape
  • Accomplishes floor panel, duct, structural and non-structural panel repairs
  • Utilizes precision measurement tooling
  • Completes and retains all associated Composite Repair paperwork to support Repair document requirements
  • Repair setup and layout, taper sanding, ply kitting, DVD chamber setup and operation, surface preparation, advanced vacuum bagging, Heatcon and Mini Heatcon set-up for thermal management, application of potting and resins, wet lay ups, core removal and replacements, and post repair finishing operations
  • Works on articles of limited complexity following established drawings and requirements
