About The Position

MMI Industrial & Steel is excited to announce a new opening for a Fabrication Project Manager at our well-established and dynamic company. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all facets of our internal steel fabrication projects, ensuring each project is executed flawlessly from the initial award through to delivery. This role is crucial in maintaining our standards of quality and safety while meeting or exceeding time and budget constraints. The Fabrication Project Manager will plan, coordinate, and execute all aspects of internal steel fabrication projects from award through delivery. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and meet quality and safety standards-without field installation responsibilities. The role focuses on managing shop production workflows, materials, approvals, change orders, and client communication related to fabrication-only deliverables.

Requirements

  • 3 - 5+ years of project management experience in steel fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or custom metalwork.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes (cutting, fitting, welding, layout, QA).
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, shop drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and project management tools (e.g., Excel, Smartsheet, or similar).
  • Solid time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fabrication software (e.g., Tekla EPM, Strumis, FabTROL) a strong plus.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in construction management, manufacturing technology, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience in steel or metal fabrication may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • PMP certificate is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on fabrication scope and schedule.
  • Manage project timelines, milestones, shop release dates, and delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with drafting, estimating, procurement, and production teams to align resources and timelines.
  • Coordinate fabrication release packages with detailing team and ensure drawing approval milestones are met.
  • Work closely with the shop foreman and supervisor to schedule and prioritize work based on project deadlines.
  • Monitor fabrication progress and resolve shop-floor issues in real-time.
  • Track and manage fabrication budgets, hours, and material costs.
  • Issue and track change orders related to fabrication scope, including client approvals and internal labor/material impact.
  • Ensure all buyouts, raw materials, and components (e.g., plate, shapes, specialty hardware) are procured on time.
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to track material deliveries and address shortages or substitutions.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, contractors, and project engineers regarding fabrication progress, changes, and approvals.
  • Attend project kickoff and coordination meetings as needed (virtual or in-person).
  • Maintain up-to-date project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and delivery records.
  • Provide regular internal reporting on project status, challenges, and KPIs.
