About The Position

This position is open only to current NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services employees—including temporary employees (hired directly or through Temporary Solutions)—and former NCDA&CS employees eligible for RIF priority reemployment under G.S. 126. This is a readvertisement. Previous applicants do not need to reapply to be considered. The Cooperative Grading Service, under an Agreement between the USDA and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, administers a program to provide an impartial basis for the fruit, vegetable, and peanut industry to buy, sell, trade, and make settlements on various products throughout the state. This position oversees area supervisors ensuring quality personnel are available and are working in accordance with all USDA guidelines and standards. This position will coordinate, organize and conduct training classes and seminars for employees on Farmers Stock/Milled Peanuts and varying commodities.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of commercial horticultural crop marketing.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Ability to complete required forms, records, and reports.
  • Ability to communicate well in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to attain Commodity Grading license approved “for Supervisory Work” and Quality Systems Auditor credentials.
  • Agricultural Commodity Grading High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of closely related work experience including three years of grading experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensure by USDA for commodities graded; possession of a valid state driver's license.
