About The Position

F/A-18 SLM Project Management Specialist (Level 4) Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a proactive F/A-18 Service Life Modification (SLM) Project Manager to join our San Antonio, Texas team. Reporting to the San Antonio-based senior SLM program manager, the successful candidate will help lead SLM execution and act as a key liaison across senior management, functional program leaders, suppliers, and customers. This role requires strong influencing skills without direct authority, familiarity with Contracts and/or Finance to support proposal development and negotiations, and hands-on focus supporting aircraft performance execution. The SLM Project Manager will drive lean continuous improvement initiatives, provide team staffing oversight, and maintain oversight and strategic relationships with major subcontractors and suppliers to ensure contracted performance and schedule adherence. The role will also support integration and help lead the supply chain team on material management and new procurements for planned and unplanned modification workscope material, and will help facilitate San Antonio SLM and Fighters employee engagement. Responsibilities include assisting with transition of St. Louis SLM work to existing SLM sites, contributing to financial EACs, integrated program schedules, and Company Funds Requests (CFRs), and briefing leadership and customers with confidence. Preference will be given to candidates with F/A-18 or MRO program experience, strong business acumen, customer interaction with USN/DoD, knowledge of Boeing processes, and a proven track record of overseeing contracted program performance.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Scheduling, Supply Chain, Finance, Project Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality, Project Management, or Business Operations
  • More than 2 years of experience working efforts requiring cross-functional or cross-business unit collaboration
  • More than 1 year of experience effectively leading teams without direct authority
  • More than 1 year of experience leveraging business acumen to effectively manage cost and/or schedule
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in transition of work from St. Louis to San Antonio, including knowledge transfer, backshop standup, and relocation of materials and equipment
  • Partners with Operations to monitor and optimize aircraft performance in support of contractual and LRBP obligations
  • Supports LEAN-based continuous improvement efforts to optimize program schedule, supply, and organizational culture
  • Oversees the CFR lifecycle for multiple recurring SLM CFRs: tracks monthly burn rates, enforces compliance with approved values, and manages fund expirations to prevent lapses
  • Coordinates biennial proposal cycles and contract negotiations to establish and renew two‑year SLM IDIQ periods of performance
  • Assist with monitoring compliance with contractual reporting deliverables—EVM, IMS, aircraft material condition reports and forecasts, site plans, meeting minutes, and other required submissions.
  • Assists with annual major EACs through input validation, risk and opportunity verification, and assessment of current and projected performance trends
  • Participates in all internal and external programmatic meetings, including Risk Issue & Opportunity (RIO) Management, Change Control Boards (CCB), Business Performance Reviews (BPR), and Program Management Meetings (PMM)
  • Integrates cross-functional inputs and activities to ensure cohesive execution across Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Finance
  • Partner with Supply leadership to support material management and new procurements for planned and unplanned aircraft workscope—provide program-insight on prioritization, inventory/forecast visibility, and risk input while enabling Supply to develop sourcing strategies, accelerate lead times, and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to mitigate schedule risk
  • Help facilitate employee engagement initiatives for San Antonio SLM and Fighters organizations to support retention, morale, and cross-site collaboration
