About The Position

The Extrusion Technician plays a key role in supporting Applied Medical's manufacturing operations through the precise setup, operation, and maintenance of advanced extrusion equipment. This position directly contributes to the production of high-quality medical devices and components. The Extrusion Technician ensures the consistency, safety, and efficiency of extrusion processes that uphold Applied Medical's standards for innovation and manufacturing excellence.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and adjust extrusion machinery.
  • Skilled in using calibrated measuring instruments to verify product dimensions.
  • Proven attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and manufacturing specifications.
  • Willingness to learn new tooling, extrusion techniques, and materials.
  • Flexibility to work varied or extended hours to meet production schedules.
  • Understanding of or ability to learn applicable quality and safety regulations, including QSR and ISO standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience operating extrusion or plastics processing equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with medical device manufacturing, ISO 13485 standards, or FDA Quality System Regulation (QSR) requirements.
  • Experience applying Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Technical training or coursework in manufacturing technology, mechanical systems, or related disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate extrusion equipment to manufacture high-quality components that meet strict dimensional and performance specifications.
  • Monitor extrusion processes by tracking temperature, pressure, line speed, and material feed to ensure consistent output and prevent defects.
  • Perform equipment troubleshooting and maintenance to resolve mechanical or process issues, reduce downtime, and maintain production efficiency.
  • Inspect and verify quality of extruded products using calibrated tools such as calipers, pin gauges, and rulers, ensuring compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality assurance, and engineering to implement process improvements and maintain smooth operations.
  • Document production data and adjustments accurately to support traceability, continuous improvement, and compliance with ISO and Quality System Regulation (QSR) standards.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following established safety procedures and promptly addressing any non-conformance or equipment concerns.
