SUMMARY Sets up and operates a plastic extruder including all support equipment and coordinates activities of production workers in the Extrusion area by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, eight to ten years of extrusion experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to operate PC utilizing the ERP system or comparable system.
  • Ability to set-up, operate and trouble shoot all machinery and support equipment within the extrusion department. Ability to identify when and how to use various TQM tools and techniques.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints and computer programs documents and the ability to effectively present information to all levels of employees including top management in a variety of settings is required. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists is required. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required.
  • Must have the ability to work all shift schedules, periodic overtime and be available for periodic weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Assists in accident investigations and preparing a timely report.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records (maintenance reports, work performance logs, press reports, etc.).
  • Perform work center management tasks
  • Confers with other Extrusion Leads and Shift Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Operate an extruder daily.
  • Assist with training of new associates.
  • Performs position in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as company policies and procedures
