This position oversees the daily operations of the extrusion process, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. The Extrusion Lead provides technical guidance and leadership to extruder operators and serves as a liaison between the team and management. This role requires commitment to teamwork, accountability, and Watts’ values while supporting our mission to protect the world’s most valuable resource: water. This position reports to the Value Stream Leader. This role is onsite and is based in St. Pauls, NC.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; or combination of relevant experience and education.
Minimum 5+ years of extrusion experience, preferably with pipe.
Strong troubleshooting skills
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Proven ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (valid certification preferred).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations and safety practices and procedures.
Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

Technical certification in Plastics or manufacturing technology.
Prior leadership or team coordination experience.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.

Responsibilities

Set up, operate, and monitor extrusion machines and related equipment.
Lead and coordinate the activities of extrusion operators.
Assign tasks and monitor performance of extruder operators
Ensure production schedules are met and materials are used efficiently.
Monitor product quality and make adjustments to equipment as needed.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on extrusion equipment.
Train new operators and ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures.
Maintain accurate production records and logs.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
Conduct first-piece inspections and ensure product quality.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Conduct and lead daily Gemba walks and meetings to promote continuous improvement and team engagement.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and cross-functional teams.
Fill in for Supervisor as needed, including decision-making and team oversight.
