About The Position

Assist Graphics Service Manager to effectively manage external vendor projects being supplied to Belmark for printing and converting. Must understand and communicate the design and color management principals used to control all aspects of print quality. This position will require a comprehensive understanding of the external graphics vendor process, various printing processes, color management and color control from a theoretical and practical standpoint from pre-press through print manufacturing. This position will require the ability to work between Belmarks Pre-Press and Production to ensure all color management processes are understood, implemented and followed. Responsible for providing detailed instructions including but not limited to: file specifications, file set up requirements, print recommendations, graphic consultation for optimum print and converting into final product.

Requirements

  • Requires any combination equivalent to graduation from High School, minimum two (2) years of college/Tech School, and/or minimum three (3) years of related printing experience in flexographic, digital, and offset graphics experience.
  • Understanding a variety of packaging machinery concerning eyemarks, cut off tolerances, layouts, etc.
  • Knowledge of design specifications, die/template configurations and graphic art services.
  • Understand customer/vendor remote review, proof and approval process (Web Center, Blue, GMI, etc.).
  • Understand Customer/Vendor Brand management requirements.
  • Document discussions and requests regarding projects.
  • Understand all industry specifications (flexo, offset, digital, rotogravure).
  • Understand Belmark manufacturing capabilities (flexo, offset, digital, etc.).
  • Understand press specifications, converting applications and tolerances related to both.
  • Understand how press specifications and tolerances are applied to file work and how design options are applied to files to provide optimal file output and consistency based on those specifications and tolerances.
  • Understand color theory and the press characterization process and how files are built to proper file requirements based on the approved customer model (template/material).
  • Understand how design options are applied to files to provide optimal file output and how to apply to templates/die lines.
  • Understand how and why color corrections and adjustments to customer supplied art files are made to ensure a marketable match from proof to final printed product.
  • Understand workflows and graphic order layout instruction and the sequence of internal operations.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Products and other Graphic related software (Illustrator, Photothop, ArtPro and related Esko software).
  • Ability to effectively utilize (writing, speaking, reading) the English language.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
  • Ability to operate a Mac computer.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to type accurately and neatly.
  • Ability to meet and exceed deadlines.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as point of contact for questions regarding External Vendors/Brand projects with Customers, Designers, Sales, Account Service and Manufacturing teams.
  • Work with External Vendors, Customers, Designers, Account Service, Sales and Pre-Press to educate them on our color/brand management program and practices.
  • Work with Color Manager to ensure all processes are integrated into new or existing workflows, hardware, and software.
  • Contact customers, designers or external vendors for project clarification, activity and timelines.
  • Provide information directly to Customers, Designers, External Vendors and Sales Representatives regarding Belmarks printing capabilities.
  • Responsible for the flow of artwork and Graphic Orders; this includes completing Graphic Orders, Label Pages, Preflight information, etc.
  • Preflight all customer supplied file design components and on-board them into the operating system. This includes opening customer supplied files, printing file images and determining New/Revised status.
  • Preflight and evaluate art for printability issues and provide vendors/customers with solutions to resolve design related issues for press and all manufacturing processes.
  • Establish clear and concise guidelines and instructions for the manufacture of department deliverables (Proofs, 1up final files, stepped final files, tiffs, lens, plates, etc.).
  • Create design/brand references when applicable.
  • Review art from Graphics Production when applicable.
  • Participate in Press Approvals as needed.
  • May need to host customer internal visits for tours and/or press approvals, host online virtual press approvals, or attend online meetings and trainings.
  • Gather and document necessary final printed samples required to be sent out for requested Vendors Print Quality Management programs.
  • Conduct post press reviews of projects when required and support Manufacturing during the production process.
  • Coordinate Job Pulls and Internal Change Requests.
  • Provide ideas and solutions to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
  • Help improve current procedures, develop new procedures and internal data storage updates as needed.
  • Work with manufacturing to ensure color management practices and standardized processes are understood and followed.
  • Interact with management, sales, customer service, manufacturing and graphics personnel on an on-going basis.
  • May be required to do internal or external presentations regarding color management practices.
  • May produce computer label designs according to customer, pre-press and manufacturing specifications.
  • May measure, evaluate and process press profile sheets to ensure quality and accuracy of printed product.
  • May be required to travel to customers for training, education and gathering data.
  • May generate and output proofs and verify for accuracy.
  • Responsible to follow all safety procedures as required by the role, and to nurture a food safety culture by adhering to all Safe Quality Foods requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by manager.
