About The Position

The External Affairs Manager will support Blue Rose Research's messaging initiatives, political outreach, and media strategy. This role reports to the Director of External Affairs and serves as a key representative of the organization to Democratic stakeholders, clients, and media. The External Affairs Manager will have significant autonomy in managing day-to-day external communications while working closely with the Director to advance BRR's strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Political Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in Democratic politics, ideally including work at a political campaign, on Capitol Hill or with a progressive advocacy organization. Bonus points if you have a quantitative background, especially at a Democratic polling or data firm.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional writer and editor with the ability to translate complex research findings into clear, compelling strategic guidance for diverse audiences
  • Stakeholder Management: Comfortable independently representing an organization in meetings with senior political staff, donors, clients, and media. Experience managing principals or elected officials is a strong plus.
  • Political Acumen: Deep familiarity with the Democratic ecosystem, including knowledge of key players, organizations, and current political dynamics
  • Juggling Capacity: Thrives in fast-paced environments with competing demands; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond quickly to urgent requests
  • Relationship Builder: Skilled at cultivating and maintaining relationships with political stakeholders, reporters, and clients
  • Problem-Solver: Brings a positive, solutions-oriented mindset to challenges; approaches obstacles with creativity and persistence rather than getting stuck
  • Self-Starter: Proactive and able to work independently with minimal direction; takes ownership of projects from start to finish
  • Mission-Driven: Passionate about progressive politics and using data-driven research to help Democrats win elections and advance policy goals
  • Detail-Oriented: Fierce attention to detail, particularly in written communications that represent the organization externally
