The Agency You’ll Join: The NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) was established in October 2023 as the City of New York’s centralized agency to advance equity. Our mandate is rooted in a simple but powerful belief that every New Yorker deserves the chance to live, work, and thrive with dignity. To realize that vision, MOERJ brings together several key initiatives and offices, including the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), NYC Her Future (NHF), the NYC Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), and the NYC Unity Project (UP), as well as cross-agency bodies like the NYC Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE). Together, we create a unified framework for addressing the many ways inequity shows up in daily life. The Team You’ll Work With: Housed within MOERJ, NYC Her Future will drive positive change and help create a brighter future for all young people, with a special focus on young women, girls, and gender-expansive youth in communities of color across New York City. Launched as part of “Women Forward NYC,” the city’s $43 million action plan aimed at making New York a national leader on gender equity -- this new office connects young women, girls, and gender expansive youth of color to development opportunities and programs that center empowerment, cultural identity, well-being, and academic and career success. As a companion to the NYC Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), NYC Her Future will build on YMI’s success and work alongside it to ensure that all NYC youth are advancing and that their needs are met equitably. The Problems You’ll Solve: Through the creation of NHF, the City has declared its commitment to prioritize young women. This newly created office will develop new programs and policies that are designed to address disparities impacting young women of color and their peers across numerous outcomes related to education, health, employment, and the criminal justice system. These programs and policies break down barriers to success and help young women achieve their professional, educational, and personal goals. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the External Affairs Manager will ensure that the office is effectively communicating with all its stakeholders through social media efforts, paid media campaigns, and building public awareness, in addition to supporting the Senior Director of Strategy and Operations with partnership management. The External Affairs Manager will also provide support to the NYC Her Future Executive team. This individual should be eager to join a creative, mission-focused team in a startup environment. This is a dynamic role that will include participation in evening and weekend events. The External Affairs manager is also expected to be reachable outside of regular office hours for time sensitive matters such a press inquiries.
