About The Position

Colorado State University Extension in Douglas County is seeking an Outreach Program Coordinator to coordinate, promote, deliver, and evaluate non-credit programming. This role is a member of the Douglas County Extension Team, focusing on engaging the Douglas County community in Extension programs. The successful candidate will contribute to team goals and work independently under the supervision of the Douglas County Extension Director, receiving guidance from the State 4-H Office. The position involves regular collaboration with extension faculty and staff across various programs and counties. The Program Coordinator's responsibilities include: 1) Coordinating, delivering, and evaluating 4-H school enrichment or after-school programs such as Embryology, STEM curricula, and National Western Stock Show programming, with potential for expansion. 2) Leading community outreach efforts to increase enrollment and engagement in Extension programs and services. 3) Providing support to extension specialists, including in-office presence, communications, and event assistance. The primary office is in Castle Rock, Colorado, with eligibility for a hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office. The work schedule will vary, necessitating frequent evening and weekend work, though time can be flexed to maintain a 40-hour work week. Regular travel within Douglas County and infrequent travel along the Front Range and other parts of the state are required, with the ability to travel for program delivery or outreach events at least twice a week.

Requirements

  • Completed bachelor’s degree.
  • Conferred degree must have been conferred in education, animal sciences, agriculture, environmental science, natural science, youth development, family and consumer sciences, leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated initiative, commitment to teamwork, and the ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation, writing, and use of technology as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills that include managing multiple programs, scheduling effectively, and the timely submission of required reports and materials as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
  • Ability to travel, as required.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a license by start date.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching or Extension experience.
  • Experience marketing, promoting, or creating public awareness of programs and opportunities including using social and mass media (e.g., TV, Internet, Facebook, newspaper, etc.).
  • Experience working with others to create and/or implement guidelines, rules, and policies.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the delivery of new 4-H school enrichment and outreach programs in family consumer sciences, agricultural literacy, and leadership, including training volunteers or teachers to deliver programming, providing content expertise, and/or delivering programs directly.
  • Create partnerships with Douglas County School District and other community organizations to further the work of Extension.
  • Provide oversight of program financial resources (internal and external).
  • Work effectively as part of the Douglas County Extension team and succeed in independent work.
  • Engage with and inform the public on Extension programs through community events via presentations, workshops, and outreach booths.
  • Work with partners, planning committees, volunteers, and youth to ensure an appropriate and exemplary Extension presence and participation at the Douglas County Fair, the National Western Stock Show, the Colorado State Fair, and other state and local 4-H events.
  • Develop strong working relationships and effective communications with local Extension staff, university staff, Extension and State 4-H Office staff, local schools, Douglas County government and departments, local foundations, and other youth-serving organizations to enhance funding and implementation of youth development and 4-H programming.
  • As part of the 4-H team, the individual in this position will support county specialists with programming events to set up, tear down, and deliver programs.
