Woburn Public Schools Extended School Year Special Education Teacher DEFINITION: The Extended Year Program Special Education Teacher is an employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools. The purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Student Services and Coordinators in all duties necessary for the proper and efficient operation of the Woburn Public Schools Extended School Year Program. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Special Education Teacher will provide instruction in the district extended school year program. PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Education Minimum: One-year special education teaching experience Minimum: Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification as a Special Educator (Severe or Moderate) SALARY: $38/hour WORKING TIME: The Extended School Year Special Educator Teacher will be required to work 16 extended school days , at the discretion of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, or Director of Student Services. The length of the workday will be 3.5 hours, including 3 hours of instructional time and 0.5 hours of paid preparation time per day . In addition to the daily preparation time, there will be 3 hours of prep before the program begins and 3 additional hours at the end of the program for a total of 6 additional hours of preparation time . The 2026 Extended School Year will run Monday through Thursday from July 6, 2026, through July 30, 2026 . Attendance for all 16 days of the program is mandatory. DUTIES: The Extended School Year Special Education Teacher shall: Attend an orientation meeting prior to the start of ESY in June 2026 Review class roster; send personalized letter welcoming each student to program prior to the start of ESY Review folder for each ESY student including IEP, Progress Reports, Behavior Plans, and Work Samples prior to the start of ESY. Submit field trip requests prior to the start of the program (if appropriate for assigned class) Take daily attendance and provide communication with families as necessary for the duration of the ESY program Review IEP and verify each student’s ESY therapy schedule Prepare lesson plans in conjunction with individualized student IEP goals at the start of each week Provide comprehensive instruction individualized to the needs of each student Oversee assigned classroom paraprofessionals and ensure adequate communication relative to individualized student needs Collect data in conjunction with student IEP goals Compile data and prepare ESY summary notes due on July 30, 2026 Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendents and/or the Director of Student Services
