About The Position

The Extended Learning and Enrichment Intern is a versatile role focused on supporting summer programming and preparing facilities for the upcoming academic year. The intern will gain valuable experience in the field of education and contribute to the success of KIPP DC's mission . This is a summer intern role that runs for 9 weeks (June 1, 2026 - July 31, 2026), based on KIPP DC campuses with an anticipated start date of June 1st, 2026. For 25 years, KIPP DC has partnered with students, families, and the community to create joyful, academically excellent schools across the nation's capital. Today, our network of 22 schools educate more than 7,500 students in grades PreK3-12, supported by 1,500 dedicated teachers, leaders, and staff. The Extended Learning and Enrichment team is seeking motivated interns to support our comprehensive Summer 2026 programming. This role is vital in ensuring a high-quality summer experience for students while simultaneously preparing our facilities and systems for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. You will work at the intersection of operations, student culture, and administrative support to facilitate a strong summer experience for students. The Extended Learning and Enrichment Intern for Summer 2026 supports the implementation of summer programming while preparing facilities and systems for the upcoming academic year. The role is divided equally across four key areas: managing attendance systems and data reporting; assisting with building operations and classroom logistics; supporting student culture through PBIS data management and event coordination; and providing administrative support for out-of-school-time enrollment and communication. Success in this position requires technical proficiency in Google Docs, strong organizational skills to handle varied tasks, and the ability to manage both physical and administrative duties in a school environment. This is a Non-exempt position and will report to the Managing Director of Extended Learning & Enrichment. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Google Docs is required.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for parent outreach and team collaboration.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to stand frequently
  • Physical Ability: Comfortable moving classroom materials and navigating the building for attendance sweeps.
  • Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools and throughout Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • System Development: Design and implement systems to help school teams record accurate daily attendance and track student tardiness.
  • Data Management: Enter attendance for tardy students and perform building "sweeps" to verify that physical attendance matches digital records
  • Communication: Make daily outreach calls for absent students and report attendance trends to school and regional leadership.
  • Logistics: Support leaders and teachers with the delivery of materials and the physical setup/breakdown of classrooms.
  • Systems Setup: Assist in establishing operational flows for student arrival, dismissal, and lunch service.
  • Transition Support: Work with partners and school leaders to "break down" buildings at the end of summer and prepare them for the new school year.
  • PBIS Data: Support school teams by managing data entry for student incentive systems.
  • Student Incentives: Facilitate the daily operations of the campus school store, including inventory management.
  • Events: Assist school teams and external vendors in coordinating student celebrations and designing systems for field trips.
  • Enrollment: Directly support the Director of Out-of-School Time with the aftercare enrollment process.
  • Organization: Manage classroom materials and resources dedicated to out-of-school-time programming.
  • Communications: Develop and post flyers, signage, and other materials to welcome children and families to the building.
  • General Admin: Support with various administrative tasks as they arise to prepare for the school year.
