About The Position

SUMMARY The after-care assistant provides quality supervision for students participating in the program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provides after-school supervision for students. Checks students in and signs them out to approved adults. Observes, monitors, and participate in children’s play activities whether small group or whole group. Provides supervised playtime outside (weather permitting) to provide a sage and positive environment. Fosters and supports the student’s spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Efficiently redirects inappropriate student behaviors and implements the program discipline system to effectively monitor and guide proper student behavior. Communicates with the supervisor as well as parents regarding any problems that may arise during after-school care hours. Reports any problems to the supervisor and/or principal. Hours for position vary, but usually include weekday afternoons and extended summer hours.

Requirements

• Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; supplemented with previous experience working with children preferred.
• Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm, positive and upbeat so as to provide a nurturing atmosphere for all students.
• Ability to be flexible to work with students from ages 5-14.
• The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar.
• Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
• Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (25 pounds).
