Position Summary The Export Compliance Analyst supports Applied Material’s export compliance program with a primary focus on deemed export licensing and technology controls. You will help prepare and submit deemed export license applications, coordinate cross-functionally to collect required technical and HR data, administer and improve Technology Control Plans (TCPs) to protect controlled technology and comply with U.S. export regulations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Supply Chain, International Business, Engineering, Legal Studies, or related field.
  • 2 – 4 years of experience in export compliance, trade compliance, HR compliance, security compliance, or related operational compliance role.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. export control concepts (e.g., EAR/ITAR fundamentals, controlled technology, foreign national access, recordkeeping).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Clear, professional communication skills (written and verbal) with comfort working cross-functionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with deemed export licensing and/or Technology Control Plans.
  • Familiarity with export classification concepts (ECCNs), controlled technology assessments, and/or technology release analysis.
  • Exposure to semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, hardware engineering, or R&D environments.
  • Experience with compliance systems/tools (e.g., GTS, OCR/ECCN tools, ticketing systems, document management).
  • Professional certification (or interest in pursuing), such as CUSECO, CCS, or similar trade compliance credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, draft, and submit deemed export license applications and related documentation (e.g., technology descriptions, controlled technology matrices, supporting narratives and records).
  • Coordinate inputs with Engineering, R&D, HR, Legal, Security and other relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate technical and employee information is captured.
  • Track licensing status, timelines, and agency requests; manage follow-ups and maintain clear internal communication on progress and outcomes.
  • Support post-approval compliance requirements, including license conditions, restrictions, reporting and internal communication of controls.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Technology Control Plans for controlled technology and projects involving foreign national access.
  • Partner with Security, IT, Facilities, and functional leaders to implement TCP controls (physical, IT, procedural) including: access approvals and badging/visitor protocols controlled document labelling and storage system access reviews and permissions segregation of controlled areas and secure collaboration practices
  • Conduct periodic TCP assessments and support internal audits to validate controls are working as designed.
  • Maintain TCP documentation, evidence, and records retention in alignment with company policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Assist with tracking and maintaining requirements for big IT projects
  • Support the Export Compliance Manager with reporting, metrics, process mapping, and SOP/work instruction updates.
  • Assist with export compliance training and awareness efforts—especially as they relate to deemed exports and technology controls.
  • Participate in compliance reviews for new hires, interns, contractors, and visitors where controlled technology may be involved.
  • Help identify opportunities to simplify workflows, improve cycle times, and enhance data quality while maintaining compliance.
