About The Position

Experiential Learning Specialist Part-time, Non-exempt Schedule: Part-time - 18 hours Tuesday 9 am –3 pm Friday 3 pm –9 pm Saturday 12 pm – 6 pm Do you love helping people to turn their creative ideas into reality? If so, Skokie Public Library is looking for you! As an Experiential Learning Specialist, you’ll be part of a knowledgeable, service-oriented team that supports patrons in using a variety of maker and digital equipment. You’ll provide welcoming, knowledgeable support in our Studio, a hands-on learning makerspace, as well as contribute to engaging displays and project guides. What You’ll Do Provide friendly, responsive customer service to all library patrons Offer personalized assistance for using our maker equipment Answer basic informational questions and assist with library resources Create sample materials, activity guides, and other materials to support self-directed learning Troubleshoot minor problems with equipment and software Build relationships with patrons visiting the Studio Collaborate with colleagues on programs, outreach, and special projects Minimum Qualifications Some college coursework, an associate degree, or equivalent experience Experience providing direct customer service to adults, teens, and families, or relevant work experience What You Bring Excellent communication and social skills Cultural awareness and the ability to serve a diverse community Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility Broad knowledge of Microsoft and Apple operating systems Strong computer skills and familiarity with technology A flexible, creative mindset and a genuine love of public service Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree Experience working in a public library Working Conditions This position involves both desk and active work, including standing, walking, lifting materials, and frequent computer use. Availability for days, evenings, and weekends may be required.

Requirements

  • Some college coursework, an associate degree, or equivalent experience
  • Experience providing direct customer service to adults, teens, and families, or relevant work experience
