GENERAL PURPOSE Operates machinery to perform single and double needle sewing operations. Exhibits initiative in daily performance to provide quality products and services that meet/exceed customer demands and maintain a quality working relationship with team members. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Adjust machines to stitch various types of fabrics. Complete daily paperwork to track rejects, units completed or other documentation as required. Inspect parts during assembly and upon completion to assure compliance with established product quality criteria. Maintain expected levels of order and cleanliness. Make minor repairs to assigned machines. Operate industrial sewing machine to join pre-cut and upholstery pieces; align pieces to preserve grain and/or pattern. Provide guidance, coaching, and training to less experienced team members. Report any equipment or safety concerns immediately to assure a safe work environment. Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience High School diploma or its equivalent or work experience which demonstrates performance competency 6+ years of experience sewing in a manufacturing /production environment, preferably in high-end contract furniture. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and able to take on work with minimum to no supervision. Highly organized, self-motivated, and results driven. In-depth knowledge and understanding of the workflow and business objectives. Ability to assist with the coordination of workflow. Proficient in sewing all current product accurately and easily adapting to the introduction of new products. Comprehensive understanding of the notch system and the ability to sew the most complex patterns utilizing all types of materials. Advanced understanding of the fundamentals of a sewing machine and have the ability to perform minor maintenance. Demonstrated ability to operate and program sewing machines for detailed assembly work. Demonstrated ability to distinguish between colors of thread or fabric, fabric grains and patterns. Good hand-eye coordination, concentration skills, and demonstrated attention to detail. Basic math, reading and communication skills. Ability to rapidly manipulate small parts and use power hand tools, while operating the sewing machine. Proven ability to work in a flexible work environment and adapt to overtime requirements as needed. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
