Under general supervision, performs duties in the Fire Services area of assignment. Personnel will receive on-the-job training in additional specialized areas in which certification is sought. Work is reviewed by observation, evaluation, reports and public comment. Knows and gains understanding of the Airport’s Safety and Security regulations and takes proactive measures (see something, say something) to immediately report safety and security violations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Depending on Fire Services area of assignment as determined by departmental requirements, and at the discretion of the department, may perform any or all of the following: Responds to calls and performs general fire/rescue work including but not limited to emergency medical scenes, fire incidents, environmental and hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue incidents, search and rescue operations and other fire service related emergency requests to all locations on the airport and off the airport in support of mutual aid agreements as needed. Performs structural and aircraft fire rescue duties including but not limited to responding to alarms, deploying and connecting hoses, raising and climbing ladders, ventilating structures, operating extrication equipment, rescuing victims at automobile accidents, industrial accidents, burning aircraft and/or buildings, and renders emergency medical care when necessary. Performs as an emergency equipment driver: inspects, drives, and maintains automotive fire fighting fire/rescue apparatus and related equipment. Operates a Mobile Intensive Care Unit and performs the duties of a paramedic responding to medical emergencies to treat patients according to medical protocol established by the Department contracted Medical Control provider; transports patients to a medical facility; and coordinates activities related to a disaster response including but not limited to triage, patient treatment, patient tracking and transport. Maintains station, grounds and facilities. Performs as an instructor for in-station training. Develops pre-fire plans for airport buildings. Provides continuous monitoring for hazards in emergency weather conditions. Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.
