Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade. The Opportunity Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Expanded Learning, the Expanded Learning Attendance Recovery Specialist supports the TK-8 academic Attendance Recovery program of Camino Nuevo. Coordination of support includes a variety of activities including data analysis, development of attendance recovery course programming, professional development for attendance recovery staff, and communication with students and families. The Expanded Learning Attendance Recovery Specialist must be committed to ensuring that all students receive access to high quality academic opportunities through Attendance Recovery, and to supporting schools in recouping ADA funds through detailed and effective record keeping.

Requirements

  • Valid California Teaching Credential or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to implement varied classroom strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and identify key areas for attendance recovery
  • Educational vision for and experience with low-income and/or minority students
  • Experience working with English language learners
  • Experience serving students with Special Needs
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment required
  • Commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of students
  • Bilingual English-Spanish required

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Expanded Learning team, and establish goals and priorities in the area of Attendance Recovery for the Expanded Learning team.
  • Contribute to the overall vision of the Expanded Learning programs of Camino Nuevo.
  • Support the development of strategic plan for the ongoing success of the Expanded Learning team
  • Support the research and development of a cohesive plan for attendance recovery in grades TK - 8.
  • Contribute to the development of structures and processes to increase the level of excellence across all CNCA schools, and specifically as they relate to attendance recovery.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of instructional and attendance recovery through the use of key metrics to inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making
  • Elevate challenges that arise in the context of attendance recovery programming and work with the Sr. Director of Expanded learning to inform and improve work
  • Understand and navigate the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context facing urban charter schools and the students they serve
  • Partner with the site leadership team to hire, train, and support attendance recovery teachers, working to ensure that they are effectively addressing the core academic needs of their group and motivating them to participate.
  • Quickly develop strong relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders at school sites in an effort to support effective collaboration.
  • Attend CNCA's Monthly Attendance Huddles
  • Regularly meet with Knowledge Management and site attendance teams to plan strategic action and alignment
  • Regularly attend site and HSO attendance meetings.
  • Design effective structures and curricula for attendance recovery utilizing research to identify best practices and make curricular choices
  • Maintain the established Expanded Learning attendance recovery budget.
  • Make recommendations for budget prioritization and track the attendance recovery expenditures.
  • Analyze school-wide attendance data to determine areas of need for attendance recovery.
  • Collaborate with site and HSO attendance teams and Knowledge Management to coordinate and execute attendance recovery.
  • Support the professional development of attendance recovery teachers in their work with students through systematic observation and feedback cycles, partnership with planning, and providing model lessons.
  • Track and meet all compliance requirements for inputting Attendance Recovery time into the associated platforms.
  • Oversee data collection and progress monitoring to determine the effectiveness of attendance recovery
  • Provide training and technical assistance for Attendance Recovery staff in curricular, pedagogical and compliance tracking skills
  • Develop and facilitate family orientations and workshops for attendance recovery families
  • Participate actively in HSO events as a member of the Expanded Learning team
  • Research, identify, and maintain inventory of attendance recovery materials
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
