Have you ever wondered what it might be like to work at an Aquarium? The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is seeking an Exhibits Graphic Designer to perform creative and technical work in graphic design, signage, and digital layouts. The position works within the Exhibits team to strategize the exhibit's look and feel, and design exhibit graphics, signage, and promotional items for exhibits. All designers assist with repairs, cleaning, and general improvements throughout the Aquarium facility. The position performs all steps of the graphic production (file preparation, layout, printing, laminating, mounting, and installing graphics), maintains and troubleshoots graphics equipment including the large format printer and cutter, laminator, and assists with stocking graphics supplies. The Exhibits Graphic Designer is a team player reporting directly to the Exhibits Curator and will work closely with the exhibits team, aquarium staff, researchers, and outside contractors to ensure quality and safety of the exhibit, specimens, volunteers, and visitors. The position aims to improve proficiency in design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite and drafting software and is expected to stay up to date on current technologies and design trends. The designer attends meetings as requested, may be asked to serve on Aquarium committees, and must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
