Position Summary: The Executive Protection Manager must be a strategic thinker and innovative problem solver, adept at designing and executing effective protection programs, enterprise awareness, crisis management, and Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) initiatives. This individual should possess strong leadership, team-building, and technical skills that instill confidence in Xcel Energy’s security program both internally and externally. The candidate must embrace the corporate culture to achieve business objectives and demonstrate a proven history of exceeding stated goals and objectives. This position requires daily presence in the Minneapolis office and is not eligible for hybrid or remote work. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the company's executives and high-profile individuals, developing and implementing comprehensive protection strategies, managing a team of security professionals, and coordinating with various departments to effectively mitigate risks and respond to security incidents.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Security Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications or extensive experience in executive protection is required.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 10 + years of experience in executive protection, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Certification/License Required: Relevant certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Personal Protection Specialist (PPS) are highly desirable.
  • Specialized Training: Completion of executive protection training programs, such as those offered by ASIS International or other accredited or highly regarded Executive Protection Training institutions.
  • Skills: Leadership and Team Management: Strong ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team of security professionals.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with executives, team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Risk Assessment and Security Planning: Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and developing comprehensive security plans.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to complex security challenges.
  • Crisis Management: Expertise in managing crises and making quick, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of security technologies and systems used in executive protection.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to assess threats and vulnerabilities and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure all security measures are thoroughly planned and executed.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing situations and environments while maintaining a high level of security.
  • Customer Service: Exemplary customer service skills to ensure the safety and satisfaction of executives and high-profile individuals.
  • Role requires 24x7 support and on call for Office of the CEO.
  • Ability to remain calm and provide guidance in a crisis.

Nice To Haves

  • Secret Service or State Department Experience: Prior experience with the U.S. Secret Service, State Department, or similar agencies and advanced military training is highly valued. This includes familiarity with high-threat protection, advanced security planning, and crisis management.

Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential threats to executives. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Security Planning: Design and execute detailed security plans for executive travel, events, and daily activities. Ensure all plans are up-to-date and effective, and incorporate the lasts security technologies and methodologies.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of executive protection agents. Provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of security and professional development.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Work closely with other departments, including corporate security, legal, and human resources, to ensure a cohesive and strategic approach to executive protection.
  • Incident Response and Crisis Management: Develop and implement protocols for responding to security incidents. Lead the response efforts during any security breaches or emergencies ensuring minimal impact on business operations.
  • Surveillance and Intelligence: Monitor and analyze intelligence reports to stay informed about potential threats. Implement advanced surveillance measures and technologies as necessary.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the budget for the executive protection program. Ensure cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high security standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure all executive protection activities comply with local, state, and federal laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on the status of executive protection measures to senior management.
  • Confidentiality & Discretion Maintain the highest level of discretion and confidentiality in all security matters. Implement best practices in data security related to executive protection. Uphold professional standards in handling sensitive information.
