The Executive Director is the highest administrator at Charette High School, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of Charette High School including enacting the school’s mission, ensuring the academic performance of students, supporting the instructional practices of the faculty, maintaining charter accreditation, and ensuring smooth operations of the campus. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the execution of all programs and procedures in alignment with the school’s vision and core values. The Executive Director must foster an inclusive school culture that demonstrates integrity, diversity, innovation, accountability and a relentless pursuit of academic achievement. Requirements

  • Accomplished: school leadership experience, preferably in a turnaround setting, dramatically increasing student achievement
  • Committed to Diversity: prior experience serving a diverse population of students, and a personal commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive
  • Instructionally-minded: deep expertise in instructional best practices, and a proven ability to hold staff to high academic standards resulting in strong results for staff and students
  • Collaborator: ability to work closely with a Board of Directors, including but not limited to making Board reports, engaging Board members in decision making, and ensuring clear lines of communication. Ideally support fundraising efforts
  • Qualified: has the required credentials to earn or obtain a Rhode Island Certification of Building Level Administrator or Superintendent Certification and a combination of education, training and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the mission and vision of Charette’s updated charter is lived out on a daily basis, by all members of the Charette campus
  • Building out, implementing and refining organizational systems that support high performance and high levels of accountability for students and staff
  • Oversee student enrollment efforts and ensure the school is meeting enrollment targets
  • Engage with the Board of Directors on a consistent basis, leveraging their time and talents to create school-level change
  • Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on revenues and expenditures, and financial benchmarks and gaps in funding.
  • Alongside Board and relevant staff, codify instructional expectations and performance metrics for all Charette faculty
  • Consistently observe, coach and manage teacher performance, including a focus on data-driven instruction and decision making
  • Set vision, direction and outcomes for professional development, including a focus on student engagement, data-driven instruction, and post-secondary readiness indicators.
  • Finance: Alongside the Board and relevant staff, develop the organization’s annual budget according to state and federal law. Ensure sound accounting practices are in place, and ensure the organization’s funds are used in accordance with the annual budget
  • Ensure compliance with all laws related to taxes and payroll deductions
  • Initiate a plan and implement fundraising efforts, including grant-writing.
  • Human Resources: Alongside the Board and relevant staff, ensure the organization is staffed appropriately to meet strategic priorities and budget parameters. Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery, including but not limited to all hiring, coaching and development, and accountability metrics for the organization
  • Oversee the implementation and regular review of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
  • Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
  • Compliance: Alongside the Board and relevant staff, ensure Charette stays in compliance with all relevant stakeholders, including charter law, financial guidance, and student information security
  • Actively manage and maintain a positive, communicative, and engaged relationship with RIDE to support authorization.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the school to the broader Providence and Rhode Island communities, RIDE and fellow charter schools
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, RIDE, the Rhode Island League of Charter Public Schools and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.
