About The Position

The Executive Director Specialist is a senior operations leader deployed across the Maplewood portfolio to lead community turnarounds, leadership transitions, and enterprise-critical initiatives. This role serves as a trusted extension of senior leadership—operating as both a strategic advisor and hands-on operator—to stabilize performance, strengthen leadership, and deliver measurable, sustainable outcomes. Through hands-on engagement in day-to-day operations, the Executive Director Specialist drives improvements in occupancy and Net Operating Income (NOI) while advancing operational consistency, financial discipline, and service excellence across Focus Communities. Central to this role is the ability to build and sustain high-performing cultures—grounded in servant leadership, accountability, and pride—while ensuring consistent utilization of MSL systems and full alignment with MSL values, philosophies, standards, practices, and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years senior living leadership
  • 5+ years Executive Director experience
  • Experience across IL, AL, and Memory Care

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s preferred
  • Multi-site experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deploy into Focus Communities across the MSL portfolio, with primary geographic focus in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York
  • Lead with a hands-on, field-based approach, embedding structure, discipline, and consistency into daily operations
  • Serve as Interim Executive Director during leadership transitions
  • Conduct comprehensive operational assessments and implement clear action plans
  • Drive improvements in occupancy, operational efficiency, team stability, and resident experience
  • Ensure effective utilization of all MSL systems
  • Model and reinforce a culture of accountability, ownership, and excellence
  • Assume accountability for community-level financial performance, focusing on Net Operating Income (NOI) growth
  • Translate financial goals into daily operational execution
  • Use data to drive decisions and optimize performance
  • Stabilize labor and reduce agency reliance
  • Instill financial discipline across leadership teams
  • Drive sustainable occupancy growth across Focus Communities
  • Partner with Sales & Marketing to align operations with sales strategy
  • Monitor pipeline performance and conversion metrics
  • Address operational barriers impacting occupancy
  • Ensure competitive market positioning
  • Execute enterprise initiatives including openings and repositioning
  • Support acquisitions and transitions
  • Drive system adoption and operational consistency
  • Scale best practices across communities
  • Represent senior leadership in the field
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and survey readiness
  • Maintain documentation and audit readiness
  • Lead corrective actions for deficiencies
